A concave, hexagonal piece of wood, with a painted nature scene inside. In the painted section, a river flows through a forest with tall trees and a black bear in the background. The river extends outside of the hexagon, as a shell is painted to depict a fish swimming upstream. The whole piece rests on a wooden surface.

Salmon Run

Watercolor, wood, oyster shell

A 6″ x 6″ shadowbox with an oyster shell attached, depicting a salmon leaping out of the shell as if it were a waterfall. The background is a river scene cutting through a forest. A brown bear lurks upstream at the foot of the next waterfall.

Artist Statement

I’m Chance aka CT, an RA for the Sabatini Lab, and I’ve been drawing and painting as a hobby since I was a child. My main source of inspiration is nature, particularly sea life, which is why I started to incorporate oyster shells into my work.
